Land Judging Banner

Description

Land judging is a way of appraising the physical nature and capability of soils. Certain soil properties, such as slope, depth, and color, that can be seen, felt, or measured are reliable indicators of soil characteristics. The 4-H Land Judging Event provides 4-H members participating in county land judging programs an opportunity to demonstrate the skills and knowledge learned in a competitive setting.

Kentucky 4-H believes that all youth should have opportunities for positive youth development in our four guiding concepts:  mastery, belonging, independence, and generosity.  This event fosters mastery by learning about soil properties and soil characteristics, belonging by being part of a team, independence by practicing leadership skills and independence, and generosity by learning to share information learned with others.
