Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center
After a three year review of finances and operations of the Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center the decision has been made to reposition the use of the facility within the Kentucky 4-H Camping Program. The center located near Nancy, Ky is owned and operated by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment Cooperative Extension Program. The transition of the leadership center into the 4-H Camping program allows us to honor the rich history of the educational center while providing support and opportunities that are desperately needed.
The Lake Cumberland 4-H Educational Center was constructed 40 years ago with the support of every county in the state. Past support of the center will be recognized at the camp. The donated items (porch, rooms, etc.) are UK property and cannot be given to the counties until we go through the appropriate process with Federal Excess Property (FEP). We plan on doing that later this year. The dining hall, meeting rooms, main porch, and staff sleeping areas in the center’s main building will be converted and used by campers that visit annually. Two buildings with aging infrastructure will be demolished, pending approval from the University of Kentucky Board of Trustees. Any materials within these facilities that can be repurposed at this or other camps in the system will be. The center has been closed and contracts have been canceled through August due to COVID-19. Kentucky 4-H staff are working with those who have agreements beyond August 2020 to cancel events scheduled at the center. Full refunds will be provided.
We are eager to see how this facility will enhance the experience of the thousands of individuals who visit the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp each year. The Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp will be available for rental for internal and external audiences. Once more details are available about the rental of the Lake Cumberland 4-H Camp those will be shared.
